Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. Step 3: In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugars together with an electric mixer set on medium-high. Step 4: Beat in egg, orange juice, orange peel, and almond extract. Step 5: Gradually beat flour mixture into creamed mixture. Step 6: Stir in chopped almonds. Step 7: Roll into 1-inch balls.
