How to Get Rid of a Cold Sore

Cold sores are a form of the virus herpes and there for there is no cure. The virus remains in the body for life. Once an outbreak heals, the virus retreats back into the nerve cells. Once it is there, it stays dormant, but can reactivate at any time.

Even though there is nothing you can do to get rid of the virus, there are things you can do to prevent cold sores (the form the virus takes in an outbreak).

First Tip:

Always use a good sunscreen on your lips. Exposure to sun, cold, and wind can aggravate the virus and cause outbreaks. A good sunscreen will protect you from all of these. You can use regular sunscreen, or a lib balm that contains sun screen.

Second Tip:

Reduce stress and get plenty of rest. Stress and fatigue weaken the immune system which causes your body to not be able to fight off the virus as effectively. Easy ways to reduce stress are to exercise, and make sure you have some down time each day.

Third Tip:

Make sure you eat well and take vitamins. A well rounded diet, with a good amount of protein also boosts your immune system and helps ward off the virus. Also, supplements such as Vitamin B and Lysine have been known to prevent and heal breakouts.

If you do have an outbreak, or know someone who does, avoid coming into contact with the virus. Dont share drinks or eating utensils with another person. Wash your hands often, and avoid kissing. Even the slightest kiss on the lips can spread the virus.
