Fame Becomes Me; Review

If you guys are West Side Story lovers, like the shows "Show Boat" and "The Miracle Worker", then you are bound to fall in love with this one "Fame Becomes Me". It's Martin Short's exceptionally important new Broadway musical. Performed by an equally peerless brilliant cast of top Broadway performers and musicians, Mr. Short is successful in sealing the stage with all the memorable characters you might be familiar with and him.

Fame Becomes Me, is not meant to be a one-man show. It merges musical humor sketches plus the dance numbers. The stage is sprinkled with the treasured characters like Jiminy Glick, Ed Grimley and many others. This creation includes a script, songs by Short in addition the Hairspray songwriting group of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Wittman. In the true culture of West Side Story "The Lion King" emerges as a block buster American musical... but before it, there was only and only Martin Short.

This awesome musical features Tony Award-winning actor in a tour de force showing the viewers an unbelievable version of his life story. The supporting cast for "Fame Becomes Me" includes Brooks Ashmanskas, Mary Birdsong, Capathia Jenkins and Nicole Parker.

Martin Short is too near to seize James Brown's title as the hardest-working man in show business and for a good reason. Instead of one long sequence or story "Fame Becomes Me" is a series of effectively distinct diverse songs and skits. But this doesn't effect the humorous aspects of the show overall.

Martin Short a native of Hamilton, a fantastic comedian 56-year-old is seen sweating frantically on the stage. It seems like he kicked the boredom and lethargy of his life in this show on stage. You can see him running around, dancing, singing and factually swinging through the air. In addition the co-workers (five-member) are also a treat when Short is not around. Everyone seemed to be apt at his own place (http://www.ixs.net). Overall the whole aura of the show is mingled and can be sliced in to two halves.

The show takes a decent start with few giggles every now and then. But keeping in mind Short's Comic heritage television shows like SCTV, Saturday Night Live and Primetime Glick, as well as numerous movies. The show seemed as a morsel of comedy, it wasn't as great a thing as I expected it. But the show really made it above the mark after the intermission. Especially the part where the host Canadian Idol Ben Mulroney and the audience member became a part. Mulroney's participation was a like a chocolate treat after a mouth watering meal. Obviously his presence was pre-decided (When Fame Becomes Me was in San Francisco, just like the comedian Dennis Miller for the similar duty). So I was saying on the show Short as Jiminy Glick as a chunky interviewer, really have had a good time chat with Mulroney and Mulroney proved an excellent response. Few dialogues between them were simply hilarious.

Few of Jiminy's uproarious digs at Mulroney:

My God, it's George Hamilton."

"At first I thought you were K.D. Lang."

"You're kind of the new Jim Perry."

"Do your parents work? Did they ever?"

"So you went from law school right to Canadian Idol ... that was money well spent, wasn't it."

"You have a familiar look ... have you ever done porno?"

To which Mulroney replied, "Professionally? No, not professionally."

The Glick/ Mulroney part took the show and the audience was laughing their heads off though from there onwards the show kept a graceful pace. It got by far the biggest laughs of the night, and it was much smoother sailing from that point on. If it wasn't the best comic show in a long time (which I really doubt) then it was really one of the best.
