Target Panic: The Warning Signs

Target Panic is a widespread problem in traditional archery. The repetitive act of shooting a traditional bow combined with your hope for positive results causes target panic, so it's no wonder that most recurve and longbow shooters suffer from it during some point in their shooting lives.

Although many archers have symptoms so severe that there is little doubt target panic is to blame, some experience more subtle indications that there is a potential problem. These warning signs include a wildly errant shot once in awhile, trouble concentrating, or an occasional flinching before release.

So how do you know if these minor occurrences are going to develop into something more sinister? How do you know whether or not you're in the early stages of a downward spiral toward a bad case of target panic? Luckily, there is an easy way to find out. The key resides with the hold.

If you can hold comfortably as long as you like before deciding to release, then you don't have target panic. If, on the other hand, you don't have complete control of your release (i.e. you cannot hold and then release exactly when you want to) then you're experiencing an early symptom of target panic.

Maybe your lack of complete control is something you can compensate for and it won't negatively affect your accuracy in the future, but this is highly unlikely. In most cases, things are going to get progressively worse.

Unfortunately, target panic can be extremely difficult to get rid of. There are few potential cures available that offer much help and most take a great deal of time and commitment (as much as a few months) to notice any improvement. There is also the chance of a relapse.

Currently, there is only one permanent solution available that offers to cure target panic in as little as a few minutes. It's called the Push Release and it works by forcing you to make a conscious decision when to release the arrow. Remember, if you can hold comfortably as long as you like before deciding to release, then you don't (can't) have target panic. This is why the Push Release works so effectively.

You can learn the Push Release from someone who has already successfully learned the method, or you can learn by watching the DVD. For information about the DVD visit www.PushRelease.com
